Legal Rights and Disputes
If you disagree with an insurer's decision, you usually have the right to ask for a review — and often to free legal help.
Internal review
Many schemes let you ask the insurer to review its own decision first. Put your request in writing.
External disputes
Conciliation services, commissions and tribunals handle disputes independently of the insurer.
Time limits
Deadlines can be as short as 30 days. Write them down as soon as you receive a decision.
Legal representation
Free help exists in some schemes. For private lawyers, ask for written cost estimates.
General information only. Rules change and depend on your circumstances. Check with your regulator or get independent legal, financial or medical advice about your situation.
